- There are various types of fasting, summarized as follows:
First: Prescribed Fasting, which includes:
- Obligatory Fasting:
- Required due to time (Ramadan).
- Self-imposed by a person (vows).
- Required due to a reason or cause (expiations).
- Recommended Fasting, which includes:
- Six days of Shawwal.
- Day of Arafah for those not performing Hajj.
- Ashura.
- Increasing fasting in Sha’ban.
- Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Days 13, 14, and 15 of each lunar month.
- The first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah.
- Increasing fasting in Muharram.
- The fast of Prophet Dawood (David), peace be upon him.
Second: Prohibited Fasting, which includes:
- Forbidden Fasting:
- On the two Eids.
- During the days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah).
- Disliked Fasting, which includes:
- Continuous fasting without breaking.
- Fasting all the time.
- Fasting on the Day of Doubt.
- Fasting on the Day of Arafah for those performing Hajj.
- Specifying Friday, Saturday, or Sunday for fasting.
